Uzbekistan to Modernize Hydrometeorology and Aviation Weather Systems

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Uzbekistan has adopted Cabinet of Ministers Resolution No. 252 “On additional measures for the development of hydrometeorological service infrastructure and improvement of the monitoring system in the Republic of Uzbekistan, as well as meteorological support for the safety of civil aviation flights.”

The document provides for a set of measures aimed at modernizing the hydrometeorological sector, improving the accuracy of weather forecasting, and strengthening aviation safety systems.

According to the resolution, programs have been approved for equipping remote measurement points with modern snow-depth monitoring devices to observe conditions in mountainous regions during 2027–2028. These measures are expected to improve monitoring of hydrometeorological conditions and enable timely detection of potentially dangerous natural phenomena.

At the same time, the modernization of automatic aviation weather stations at airports across the country is planned for 2026–2028. Special attention will be given to the development of aviation meteorological infrastructure at Urgench International Airport, where the aviation weather station will be upgraded and equipped with modern specialized systems.

An automated aviation meteorological station will also be installed along the runway, supported by full engineering and communications infrastructure, including power supply, communication networks, internet connectivity, and backup power systems.

The implementation of the resolution is aimed at further developing Uzbekistan’s national hydrometeorological service, improving early warning systems for hazardous natural events, and ensuring a high level of aviation safety in line with international standards.
