Uzbekistan President offers condolences over India storm

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev has sent condolences to President of India Draupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the heavy loss of life and injuries caused by torrential rains and a severe storm in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh.

The head of state expressed sincere sympathy to the families and relatives of those killed, and wished a speedy recovery to all those injured.

According to the Indian Express newspaper, the death toll from the disaster in Uttar Pradesh has reached 111 people, while 72 others were injured.

A severe dust storm accompanied by rain and thunderstorms hit several districts of the state on the evening of May 13. People died as a result of falling trees, collapsing structures, and lightning strikes.

To address the aftermath of the natural disaster, police and rescue services deployed heavy equipment, including cranes and chainsaws.

Indian authorities have instructed the provision of urgent medical and financial assistance to affected families.
