Uzbekistan presents tourism initiatives at UN meeting
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — A delegation led by the Chairman of the Tourism Committee of Uzbekistan, A. Akkulov, took part in the 72nd meeting of the UN European Commission for Tourism, held in the Republic of Malta.
The event brought together representatives of European countries and other regions, international organizations, and tourism industry experts. Discussions focused on key trends in global tourism development, digital transformation of the sector, and measures to increase international tourist flows.
Special attention was given to Uzbekistan’s initiative to develop an International Code of Safe Tourism, as well as preparations for the International Year of Sustainable and Resilient Tourism in 2027.
In his speech, A. Akkulov stated that, at the initiative of the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, the opening ceremony of the International Year of Sustainable and Resilient Tourism 2027 will be held in Uzbekistan. He said the initiative had received unanimous support from European countries. He also presented ongoing reforms in Uzbekistan’s tourism sector, infrastructure development, and the creation of new tourism destinations.
It was also noted that Uzbekistan prioritizes maintaining ecological balance, protecting cultural heritage sites, and developing tourism in a way that considers the interests of local communities.
The UN Tourism leadership, in turn, highlighted the attention Uzbekistan is paying to tourism education and ongoing reforms in the sector.
Following the visit, new areas of international cooperation are expected to be defined, strengthening Uzbekistan’s position in the global tourism market.
