OTS Leaders Visit Khoja Ahmed Yasawi Mausoleum
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, together with heads of delegations from member states of the Organization of Turkic States, visited the historical and cultural center of Turkestan as part of the program of the informal summit.
The high-level guests toured the Khoja Ahmed Yasawi Mausoleum, which is considered one of Kazakhstan’s key spiritual and architectural landmarks and is included on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
It is noted that the structure was built in the late 14th century on the initiative of Amir Timur. Its construction took place between 1389 and 1391 and continued until the end of the century with the participation of craftsmen from various regions of Central Asia and beyond.
During the visit, the leaders paid tribute to the memory of the prominent Sufi poet and thinker whose legacy holds an important place in the spiritual history of the region.
The program also included a visit to the visitor center of the Hazret Sultan museum-reserve, where facilities have been created for receiving visitors, hosting exhibitions, and presenting the historical and cultural heritage of Turkestan.
Special attention was given to the “Hall of Rare Exhibits,” which features a permanent exhibition aimed at preserving and promoting medieval heritage.
Among the exhibits are authentic artifacts from the 14th–15th centuries, elements of decorative art and ceramics, as well as items associated with the Khoja Ahmed Yasawi Mausoleum.
These include the original mausoleum door, a funerary covering, bronze candlesticks believed to have been gifted by Amir Timur, and archaeological finds revealing the history of ancient Turkestan.
The visit concluded with the observation that the preservation of such monuments helps strengthen historical memory and cultural ties among the peoples of the region, united by shared spiritual and historical roots.
