China, US agree on new framework for relations
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Chinese President Xi Jinping held talks with US President Donald Trump, who arrived in China on a state visit. The meeting took place at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing and focused on bilateral relations, global security, and the international agenda.
Opening the talks, Xi Jinping said the world is undergoing “accelerated changes unseen in a century,” while the international situation remains unstable and turbulent. He said China–US relations are of key importance not only for the two countries but also for global stability.
The Chinese leader said Beijing and Washington must jointly address issues that, in his words, matter “for history, for peace, and for the people.” Xi said the two sides had agreed on a new vision for building “constructive China–US relations of strategic stability.”
He said the model envisions cooperation while maintaining manageable competition and controlled differences, stressing that the agreements reached must be reflected in concrete actions by both sides.
Xi said economic ties between China and the United States remain mutually beneficial and that differences should be resolved through equal consultations. He said the latest round of trade talks between the two countries concluded with “overall balanced and positive results.”
The Chinese president also reaffirmed China’s commitment to continued economic openness and welcomed expanded cooperation with US businesses. He identified trade, healthcare, agriculture, tourism, people-to-people exchanges, and law enforcement as promising areas of cooperation.
Special attention was given to the Taiwan issue, which Xi described as the most important matter in bilateral relations. He urged Washington to exercise caution, stating that “Taiwan independence” is incompatible with peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait.
Trump, in turn, said it was a great honor to pay a state visit to China. He described Xi Jinping as an outstanding leader and expressed respect for the Chinese people.
The US president said he was ready to work with China to strengthen communication, expand cooperation, and resolve differences. He said the United States and China are the two most influential countries in the world and are capable of jointly advancing major initiatives in the interest of the international community.
Trump also called on US companies to expand cooperation with China.
During the talks, the leaders exchanged views on a range of international and regional issues, including the Middle East, the war in Ukraine, and the situation on the Korean Peninsula.
The two sides also agreed to support each other in hosting APEC and G20 summits this year.
