Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — A meeting with a delegation led by Li Hongkui, Vice President and Secretary-General of the China Foundation for Human Rights Development, was held on May 13 at Uzbekistan’s National Human Rights Centre, the organization said.

The Chinese delegation arrived in Uzbekistan to take part in the “China–Central Asia–2026” Forum on Human Rights Development, scheduled for May 14 in Tashkent.

Welcoming the guests, Akmal Saidov, Director of the National Human Rights Centre and academician, said the visit of the high-level delegation, which included leading experts, representatives of academic institutions, and government bodies of the People’s Republic of China, reflects the steady strengthening of Uzbek-Chinese cooperation in the field of human rights.

During the meeting, it was noted that the Uzbek side supports a Chinese initiative put forward at the 61st session of the UN Human Rights Council, held from February 23 to March 1, 2026. The initiative aims to improve global governance in the field of human rights and to establish a Group of Friends of Global Governance. It is based on strengthening multilateral approaches, promoting reform of the UN human rights system, expanding the role of developing countries, and improving responses to contemporary challenges.

Saidov also noted that since 2018, Uzbekistan has been regularly hosting the Samarkand Forum on Human Rights on the initiative of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev. This year, the fifth forum will be held, dedicated to the 60th anniversary of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights and the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights. The Chinese side was invited to participate at a high level.

Li Hongkui expressed gratitude to the Uzbek side for the warm reception and the high level of organization of the visit. He said China and Uzbekistan, which are pursuing their own models of national development, demonstrate a convergence of approaches to human rights issues.

According to him, in recent years, strengthened friendly and mutually beneficial relations between the leaders of the two countries have significantly intensified cooperation in the humanitarian sphere, including human rights, making it more practical in nature. In this context, the “China–Central Asia–2026” Forum was described as an important platform for continued regional dialogue, exchange of experience, and development of joint solutions.

The sides discussed preparations for the upcoming forum in detail. In particular, they considered and supported proposals to publish articles based on forum presentations in National Human Rights Centre publications, as well as to issue a separate collection of forum materials.

After the meeting, members of the Chinese delegation visited the House of Human Rights. They were presented with a book exhibition featuring publications of the National Centre and literature on China, as well as a photo exhibition highlighting the development of Uzbekistan–China cooperation in the field of human rights in recent years.
