Uzbekistan’s Foreign Trade Turnover Exceeds US$31 Billion in First Five Months of 2025
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — In January–May 2025, Uzbekistan’s foreign trade turnover (FTT) reached US$31.3 billion, marking an increase of US$4.09 billion or 15.0% compared to the same period in 2024, according to the National Committee on Statistics.
Of the total volume, exports accounted for US$14.81 billion, showing a 31.1% increase compared to January–April 2024, while imports amounted to US$16.49 billion, rising by 3.7%. As a result, the trade balance posted a deficit of -US$1.67 billion.
Goods made up 78.1% of total exports. Within this, industrial goods accounted for 10.3%, food and live animals 6.2%, chemicals and related products 5.3%, and miscellaneous manufactured articles 4.0%.
Uzbekistan’s main export partners during the five-month period were Russia (10.8%), China (5.1%), Kazakhstan (3.5%), Afghanistan (3.5%), Turkey (2.9%), France (2.7%), the UAE (1.5%), Kyrgyzstan (1.4%), Tajikistan (1.4%), and Pakistan (1.1%), which together made up 33.8% of total exports.
Between January and May 2025, Uzbekistan exported 741,000 tonnes of fruit and vegetable products — a 2.8% (or 20,300 tonnes) increase year-on-year. The export value of these goods reached US$619.6 million, up by 47.9%, comprising 4.2% of total exports.
Textile exports amounted to US$1.06 billion, making up 7.1% of total exports. However, this represented an 18.0% decrease from the same period in 2024. Ready-made garments accounted for 46.8% of textile exports, while yarn made up 33.3%.
Service exports totaled US$3.25 billion — 21.9% of total exports — and rose by 32.2% compared to January–May 2024. The majority of service exports consisted of travel (tourism) services (50.2%), transportation (35.2%), telecommunications, computer and information services (8.6%), and other business services (3.3%). Among other services, insurance and pension services accounted for 1.0% and financial services for 0.9%.
Imports for the reporting period amounted to US$16.49 billion, a 3.7% increase from the same period of the previous year. Machinery and transport equipment made up the largest share at 33.6%, followed by industrial goods (16.1%) and chemicals and related products (12.9%).
Goods imports totaled US$14.80 billion, increasing by US$110 million year-on-year, while service imports stood at US$1.70 billion.
Overall, Uzbekistan imported goods and services from 158 countries during the first five months of 2025. Over two-thirds of imports came from major trading partners, including China (28.1%), Russia (19.6%), Kazakhstan (7.7%), South Korea (4.2%), Turkey (4.1%), Germany (3.1%), and India (2.7%).
Among imported services, the leading categories were travel (tourism) at 54.9%, transport services (20.3%), telecommunications, computer and information services (9.6%), other business services (6.0%), and miscellaneous services (9.2%).
