Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — In March 2025, Uzbekistan’s imports of passenger cars continued to decline, according to data from the Customs Committee.

During the month, 2,506 passenger cars were imported into the country, totaling US$39.31 million. Compared to March 2024, the value of imports fell by a factor of 2.74, while the volume dropped by 1.67 times.

The majority of imports were gasoline-powered vehicles — 1,402 units (a 1.79-fold decrease). In monetary terms, their imports dropped from US$53.4 million to US$25.3 million, down 2.11 times. The average price per vehicle decreased by nearly 15% to US$18,080 (excluding VAT and customs duties).

Imports of alternative-energy vehicles declined less sharply. Electric car imports fell by more than 1.5 times — from 1,689 to 1,104 units. However, in value terms, the drop was threefold — down to US$13.2 million. The average cost of an electric car nearly halved to around US$12,000.

Hybrid car imports (gasoline and electric) almost came to a halt, with only 25 units imported — a 23-fold decrease. The total value of these imports amounted to US$712,000, nearly 19 times lower than the previous year. Despite this, the average price of a hybrid rose by 22%, from US$23,300 to US$28,400.

As of March, the structure of imports shifted: the share of internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles dropped from 59.9% to 55.95%, hybrids from 13.7% to just 1%, while electric vehicles increased their share from 40.1% to 44.05%. Thus, more than 45% of all imported cars were new energy vehicles (NEVs).

Additionally, for the third consecutive month — from January to March — Uzbekistan did not import any diesel-powered passenger vehicles.

In the first quarter of 2025, the total number of imported passenger cars decreased 3.26 times to 6,794 units. The total value of imports declined 4.24 times to US$115 million. Broken down by type: ICE vehicles dropped 3.56 times, electric cars 1.94 times, and hybrids nearly 24 times.
