Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The Legislative Chamber of Parliament of Uzbekistan has reviewed in second reading a draft law aimed at strengthening state border protection and ensuring its inviolability.
The document introduces amendments and additions to the Criminal Code and the Criminal Procedure Code. The proposed changes are focused on tightening liability for violations related to illegal border crossings and the use of underground infrastructure.
Under the draft law, violations of customs legislation involving illegally constructed underground structures, tunnels, or other infrastructure are proposed to be classified as aggravating circumstances. In addition, penalties are strengthened for illegal exit from Uzbekistan, entry into the country, or crossing the state border using such facilities.
A separate provision introduces criminal liability for the construction and organization of illegal underground structures and tunnels, the creation of conditions for their construction, their use, as well as financing of such activities.
As noted during the discussions, the draft law is aimed at strengthening national security, preventing illegal activities at the state border, and improving legal mechanisms to combat customs violations.
Following consideration, deputies approved the draft law and forwarded it to the Senate for further review.
