Uzbekistan sends seed shipment to Afghanistan as humanitarian aid
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The Ministry of Agriculture of Uzbekistan has delivered a batch of agricultural seeds to Afghanistan as part of a humanitarian assistance package for Afghan farmers.
As part of this support initiative, Uzbekistan provided 5 tonnes of cotton seeds adapted to local climatic conditions, enabling sowing across 200 hectares of land. Additionally, 20 tonnes of rice were supplied—sufficient for planting on 100 hectares—along with 500 kilograms of mung beans for 25 hectares of cultivation. Afghan farmers also received 600 kilograms of melon and gourd seeds and 187 kilograms of vegetable seeds.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture, this aid aims to support food security in Afghanistan, boost employment in rural areas, and promote the adoption of modern agricultural technologies.
Earlier, in April, an Afghan delegation led by Minister of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock, Ataullah Omar, visited several agricultural enterprises in the Zangiata and Yangiyul districts of Tashkent Region, as well as agro-clusters in Samarkand Region, to familiarize themselves with Uzbekistan’s agricultural practices.
In March, Uzbekistan also extended humanitarian support to Afghanistan by delivering nearly 200 tonnes of food products in celebration of Navruz and Eid al-Fitr.
