Uzbekistan Rolls Out Digital Monitoring System “U-Gaz” at CNG Stations
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Uzbekistan is implementing a new digital monitoring platform called “U-Gaz” at compressed natural gas (CNG) filling stations, according to the press service of Uzenergoinspeksiya, the country’s energy inspection authority.
The system enables real-time tracking of gas dispensation volumes, aiming to improve transparency in fuel sales and prevent unauthorized use. Developers emphasize that the platform will serve as a vital tool in enhancing control over gas distribution.
One of its core features is automated access control—vehicles that do not meet safety or technical standards (e.g. tanks exceeding pressure limits or lacking valid technical inspection) will be automatically restricted from refueling. This, officials say, will significantly reduce the risk of accidents.
As of now, 424 out of 1,442 operational CNG compressor stations in Uzbekistan have completed installation of the U-Gaz system. An additional 742 stations are in the process of phased implementation. By 1 January 2026, the system must be fully deployed at all remaining stations. Failure to comply will result in operational restrictions, as U-Gaz integration will become a mandatory requirement.
In parallel with this digital transformation, regulatory authorities are tightening licensing and oversight over gas-related activities, including the extraction, processing, and sale of liquefied gas and gas condensate. Between 2024 and 2025, 276 cases of illegal gas and electricity use were uncovered at filling stations, causing losses of over UZS 591.5 billion. Additionally, 11 incidents linked to equipment misuse were recorded.
The agency noted that a publicly accessible list of compliant CNG stations already connected to the U-Gaz system has been published. These stations continue to operate normally and are not subject to potential restrictions.
Uzbekistan’s energy control bodies, including the Energy Supervision Inspectorate, are continuing outreach to CNG station owners and operators, educating them on the benefits of digital monitoring and explaining the relevant regulatory requirements. Authorities expressed confidence that the widespread adoption of U-Gaz will enhance transparency, reduce violations, and improve safety at CNG stations nationwide.
