Uzbekistan prepares to become the sixth country in the world to produce green hydrogen
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Uzbekistan may begin producing green hydrogen as early as June of this year. This was announced by Minister of Energy Jurabek Mirzamakhmudov during the International Energy Week UEW-2025.
“We hope that during the Tashkent International Investment Forum, scheduled for early June, we will be able to demonstrate the first results and officially announce the launch,” the minister noted.
The head of the Ministry of Energy emphasized that to date, only five countries in the world are involved in the production of green hydrogen. Thus, with Uzbekistan's entry into the market, it will become the sixth country to master the production of this environmentally clean fuel, strengthening its position in the global energy community.
It is worth recalling that in November 2023, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, launched the construction of a pilot green hydrogen production facility in Tashkent Region, with the participation of the Saudi company ACWA Power.
The project, which is being implemented in two stages, is valued at 88 million dollars. The first stage, planned for 2025, involves the launch of production with a capacity of 3,000 tons of green hydrogen per year.
According to JSC "Uzkimyosanoat," the second stage in Chirchik will involve the production of up to 500,000 tons of ammonia per year based on green hydrogen, as well as the construction of a wind farm with a total installed capacity of up to 2.4 GW.
