Uzbekistan plans to modernize potato industry with Hungarian partners

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — A delegation from Uzbekistan held negotiations in Budapest aimed at elevating the country's potato industry to an entirely new level, according to the press service of the Ministry of Agriculture.

As part of the official visit of the President of Uzbekistan to Hungary, Minister of Agriculture Ibrokhim Abdurakhmonov is on a working trip to Budapest, where meetings are being held to deepen cooperation in the agricultural sector.

One of the key events was a discussion with Professor Zsolt Polgár of the Hungarian University of Agriculture and Life Sciences, a recognized international expert in potato cultivation. The talks focused on promising projects for the development of the potato sector in Uzbekistan, particularly the establishment and effective operation of a Potato Research and Development Center that would unite scientific potential with practical expertise.

The Uzbek delegation also held talks with the leadership of Hungarian Potato Innovation LTD, where specific initiatives were proposed. These include joint cultivation of elite potato varieties, modernization of breeding and seed production in accordance with international standards, and the establishment of a specialized "Potato Industry Corporation" in Uzbekistan.

The parties emphasized that the application of Hungarian technologies and practices—which enjoy a strong reputation within the global agricultural community—is essential for the sustainable growth and improved efficiency of Uzbekistan’s potato sector.

Special attention was paid to the need for a systemic approach based on scientific research, technological innovation, and the integration of international best practices. Deepening the partnership with Hungary and incorporating its advanced solutions was identified as a priority for the future development of the industry.
