Uzbekistan Leads the World in Gold Sales for the Third Consecutive Month

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Uzbekistan has maintained its position as the world leader in gold sales for the third month in a row, according to the World Gold Council (WGC).

In April, global central banks increased their gold reserves by 12 tons. The largest purchase was made by Poland, acquiring 12 tons and thereby increasing its annual stockpile by 61 tons. Other significant buyers included the Czech Republic (3 tons), China, Türkiye, and Kyrgyzstan (2 tons each), as well as Kazakhstan and Jordan (1 ton each).

At the same time, the Central Bank of Uzbekistan conducted a net sale of 11 tons of gold, bringing the country's total net sales since the beginning of the year to 26 tons — the highest figure among all countries worldwide.

In February 2025, Uzbekistan became the largest gold seller, selling 12 tons of the precious metal and surpassing Kazakhstan’s 8 tons. In March, the country retained its leadership by selling 11 tons of gold.

In April 2025, Uzbekistan continued its active gold exports amounting to US$1.91 billion. Over the first four months of the year, the volume of precious metal shipments increased by 60% year-on-year, reaching US$5.48 billion.

Moreover, Uzbekistan’s Central Bank’s foreign exchange reserves have shown record growth for three consecutive months, surpassing the US$49 billion mark. In April, the country’s international reserves increased by US$1.4 billion, while currency reserves exceeded US$11 billion. Meanwhile, the total gold holdings slightly declined from 11.8 to 11.5 million troy ounces.
