Uzbekistan hosts III National Forum on Agricultural and Food Research
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The III National Forum on Agricultural and Food Research is taking place in Uzbekistan from 19 to 25 February 2020, under the theme "Advancing Long-Term and Interdisciplinary Research for Sustainable Development."
The event is organized by the Ministry of Agriculture of Uzbekistan, the National Center for Knowledge and Innovation in Agriculture, and the International Center for Strategic Development and Research in Food and Agriculture, with support from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the European Union’s ASK FACILITY program, and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
The forum is being held within the framework of the "Agriculture Development Strategy of Uzbekistan for 2020-2030," approved by the President. It focuses on integrating science, education, and information into the agro-industrial sector and aligns with presidential decrees on knowledge, innovation, and reforms in agriculture.
The two-day event features comprehensive sessions on key aspects of agricultural research development, including:
Funding mechanisms for agricultural research
International cooperation and development partner support
Government support for scientific research in agriculture
Strengthening the national agricultural research system
Strategic partnerships with CGIAR and other international research organizations
FAO experts will participate in various sessions, sharing global best practices and discussing ways to expand international cooperation. A major focus will be on Uzbekistan’s collaboration with leading global agricultural research institutes, particularly within CGIAR’s international research network on food security.
The forum highlights Uzbekistan’s growing commitment to agricultural research and its strong international support in achieving sustainable development in the sector.
