Uzbekistan Becomes Full Member of the Asian Cricket Council

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The Uzbekistan Cricket Federation (UCF) has officially been admitted as a member of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), marking an important step in the development of cricket in the country and strengthening Uzbekistan’s international sporting ties.

The decision was announced at an ACC conference held in Dhaka, Bangladesh, where Uzbekistan was represented by UCF Chairman Aziz Mikhliyev. Joining the ACC follows the Federation’s recognition as an associate member of the International Cricket Council (ICC) in 2022.

“Membership in the Asian Cricket Council is a historic milestone that opens new horizons for the growth of cricket in Uzbekistan. It allows us to become part of the wider Asian cricket family and further develop the sport at all levels,” Mikhliyev stated.

In recent years, cricket in Uzbekistan has shown steady growth. With the support of the ICC and national initiatives, the sport has been actively introduced in educational institutions, sports schools, and clubs across the country. Cricket is now included in the programs of 253 specialized sports schools, using translated and adapted ICC training materials. The number of active players has exceeded 4,000 — from the capital to the most remote regions.

Special attention is being given to youth engagement, the training of qualified coaches, and the development of modern infrastructure. Dedicated facilities in Tashkent, Chirchik, and Samarkand are already hosting training sessions for future members of Uzbekistan’s first national cricket team.

The Federation expressed its gratitude to President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev and to the relevant state bodies for their support and consistent policy in promoting mass and Olympic sports.

Uzbekistan’s accession to the ACC not only strengthens the country’s position within the Asian sporting community but also opens up new opportunities for international cooperation and for the national team to participate in prestigious tournaments.

A symbolic moment came with the ceremonial raising of Uzbekistan’s flag at the Dhaka conference — a sign of the country’s recognition on the international cricket stage.
