Uzbekistan and UNODC Agree to Develop Cooperation Roadmap Through 2030

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis, Tanzila Narbayeva, held a meeting with Oliver Stolpe, the Regional Representative of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) for Afghanistan, Central Asia, Pakistan, and Iran.

During the dialogue, the large-scale reforms being implemented in Uzbekistan under the leadership of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev were highly praised. The UNODC representative expressed full support for these transformations and confirmed the organization's readiness to provide comprehensive assistance in their implementation.

Particular attention was paid to the issue of combating human trafficking, which has been elevated to the level of state policy in Uzbekistan. It was noted that UNODC actively supports the country’s efforts in this area, and that the organization’s international experience in fighting corruption, drug trafficking, and human trafficking contributes to improving national mechanisms in line with international standards.

The important role of Uzbekistan’s parliament in developing and strengthening the legislative framework to combat human trafficking and corruption was emphasized. The system established in the country was recognized as a potential positive model on the international stage.

The meeting also highlighted progress in detecting crimes related to human trafficking and forced labor, as well as in ensuring accountability for perpetrators. Significant achievements have also been recorded in protecting the rights of labor migrants, which in turn enhances the country’s international reputation and improves its standing in global rankings.

The parties discussed prospects for expanding cooperation, particularly in the use of modern information technologies to prevent crime.

As a result of the meeting, an agreement was reached to develop a new cooperation roadmap for 2026–2030, taking into account global challenges such as digitalization, the increasing scale of labor migration, and other priority areas.
