Uzbekistan and the United States expand cooperation in combating nuclear smuggling

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — A working meeting was held at the Customs Committee with representatives from the U.S. Department of Energy's Nuclear Smuggling Detection and Deterrence Program (NPAC).

During the meeting with the delegation led by NPAC Deputy Director M. Sikom, it was emphasized that Uzbekistan is giving special attention to further expanding multifaceted cooperation with the United States, including advancing collaboration in the customs sector.

The parties discussed the prospects for cooperation in the installation of radiation portal monitors at border customs posts and ensuring their proper operation.

Currently, the installation of such monitors is underway at the "Dostlik" (Andijan) and "Uzbekiston" (Fergana) border customs posts, as well as at the Customs Institute. The work is expected to be completed next month.

As part of this initiative, the American delegation will visit the "Tashkent International Airport," "Gishtkuprik," "Navoi," and "Ferghana" customs posts from 8 to 12 April, where they will assess the installation process of the radiation portal monitors.
