Uzbekistan and the French Development Agency discussed cooperation prospects
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 10 March, the Minister of Investments, Industry, and Trade of Uzbekistan Laziz Kudratov participated in the sixth annual consultations between the Republic of Uzbekistan and the French Development Agency (AFD).
The discussions also involved representatives from the AFD, Proparco, Expertise France, as well as leading experts and entrepreneurs.
The parties reviewed the results of their bilateral cooperation, which focuses on supporting reforms, implementing infrastructure projects, and fostering the development of a green economy. They also discussed future collaboration prospects. The AFD continues to play a vital role in improving the quality of life for the population, addressing environmental and social issues, and supporting Uzbekistan's private sector.
Experts highlighted the strengthening of trade and investment ties between Uzbekistan and the European Union. In 2024, the trade turnover between the two reached $6.4 billion, a 5.2% increase. One of the key success factors has been Uzbekistan's effective use of its status under the "GSP+" program, which grants access to the European market for more than 6,200 types of Uzbek products. This contributes to the expansion of exports and strengthens the position of domestic producers within the EU.
Currently, over 1,000 European companies operate in Uzbekistan, implementing investment projects worth more than 30 billion euros. France’s experience can serve as an additional catalyst for the country’s economic growth, including through the development of sectoral strategies, support for regional development programs, and reforms aimed at strengthening the private sector.
The parties outlined several key areas for future cooperation, including regional development, attracting additional financial resources, and collaborating in critical raw material sectors.
To support these initiatives, Uzbekistan has adopted legislation in the mining sector, developed in collaboration with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. The document aligns with international standards and creates favorable conditions for attracting investments in the mining industry.
At the conclusion of the meeting, participants expressed confidence in the continued deepening of the partnership between Uzbekistan and the French Development Agency, as well as the expansion of opportunities for European companies in Uzbekistan, which aims to become a leading center for investment, innovation, and sustainable economic growth.
