Uzbekistan and South Korea discuss development of intelligent transport in Tashkent

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The Ministry of Transport of Uzbekistan hosted a meeting with a delegation from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport of the Republic of Korea (MOLIT).

The two sides discussed in detail the current state and future prospects of bilateral cooperation in the field of transportation. Special attention was given to the potential involvement of South Korean companies in projects aimed at modernizing and developing Uzbekistan’s transport infrastructure, as well as financing mechanisms for such initiatives.

The Korean delegation presented the “Master Plan for the Development of an Intelligent Transport System in the City of Tashkent,” outlining proposals for improving the capital’s public transport system.

One of the key components of the plan is the introduction of the “Smart Bus” project, which is scheduled to be implemented between 2026 and 2029 under the leadership of the International Contractors Association of Korea (ICAK).

In addition, to enhance the appeal of public transportation in Tashkent, a Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system—featuring dedicated bus lanes—is planned for rollout between 2027 and 2032. This initiative is expected to significantly increase the speed and convenience of urban travel.

Ms. Gan In Suk, Deputy Director of MOLIT, announced that $40 million in grant funding is expected to be allocated for the implementation of these projects.
