Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan Jointly Resolve Traffic Jams at “Navoiy” Border Crossing

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Today, a field meeting took place at the “Navoiy” border customs checkpoint involving senior customs officials from Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan.

The meeting was attended by Gayrat Nasirov, First Deputy Chairman of the Customs Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan, and Kairat Jumagulov, Deputy Chairman of the State Revenue Committee of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

Also present were Otabek Choriyev, Deputy Chairman of the Customs Committee of Uzbekistan, and Kahramon Umarov, Head of the Customs Department of Tashkent Region.

The parties focused primarily on the urgent resolution of traffic congestion among passenger vehicles that had been observed in recent days at Uzbek-Kazakh border crossing points.

Thanks to strengthened friendship, good neighborly relations, strategic partnership, and expanding foreign trade ties, the number of vehicles and passengers crossing the border has doubled over the past five years.

Currently, about 40,000 people and approximately 2,000 passenger cars pass daily through the “Navoiy” border customs checkpoint.

To promptly address the congestion, the sides agreed to mobilize additional resources and personnel.

Moreover, due to low outbound traffic of passenger vehicles at “Navoiy,” a reversible lane for passenger cars was introduced on the route for entry into Uzbekistan.

As of 20:25 on June 4, thanks to these measures, traffic jams at this checkpoint have been completely cleared.
