Uzbekistan and Italy discuss strengthening agricultural vooperation and implementing agricultural insurance
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — A delegation from the Ministry of Agriculture of Uzbekistan is currently on a working visit to Italy, where they held meetings with counterparts from Italy's Ministry of Agriculture to discuss enhancing agricultural cooperation between the two countries.
The primary focus of the negotiations was the implementation of agricultural insurance in Uzbekistan, the development of financial mechanisms for protecting the agricultural sector, and risk management in agriculture.
Italy, as one of the leading agricultural nations in the world, has significant experience in establishing agricultural insurance funds, payment agencies, and risk management systems. As such, special attention was given to studying Italy's experience in these areas, as well as effective risk management mechanisms and advanced approaches to addressing issues related to natural disasters and climate change.
Additionally, the parties discussed financial support mechanisms from international organizations, as well as the use of artificial intelligence and digital technologies for forecasting agricultural risks.
As a result of the talks, it was agreed to implement Italy's experience into Uzbekistan's agricultural insurance system, create digital platforms for risk management, and implement joint projects.
These initiatives are expected to help increase agricultural production in Uzbekistan, strengthen export potential, and expand access to international markets.
The meeting also addressed the following priority areas for future cooperation:
Training highly qualified specialists and independent experts in agricultural insurance;
Educating staff for the newly created agricultural insurance fund and enhancing their capabilities;
Developing and implementing training programs to improve the effectiveness of the insurance system;
Engaging international experts to help develop the legal framework for organizing the insurance system.
These steps will contribute significantly to strengthening the financial security of Uzbekistan’s agricultural sector, attracting investments into the industry, and creating reliable insurance mechanisms.
Furthermore, the delegation held a meeting with representatives of a research institute in Italy that specializes in agricultural risk analysis and the development of methodologies for agricultural insurance. The talks led to an agreement on the implementation of joint projects and the development of Uzbekistan’s specialists' potential in order to create a scientifically grounded insurance system.
Looking ahead, both countries plan to work on developing joint legal initiatives and exchanging practical experience based on regulatory documents and information about insurance funds provided by the institute.
