Uzbekistan and Iran discuss expanding cooperation in agriculture and export trade

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On the sidelines of the 16th meeting of the Uzbekistan-Iran Intergovernmental Commission, the Director of Uzbekistan’s Quarantine Agency, Ibrokhim Ergashev, held talks with Maryam Jalili, Head of the Plant Protection Organization under Iran’s Ministry of Agriculture.

The meeting focused on current areas of bilateral cooperation and outlined prospects for future collaboration, with special emphasis on strengthening trade and economic ties and expanding opportunities for the export of agricultural products.

The two sides discussed streamlining the approval process for exports of products such as cherries, apricots, and lemons to the Iranian market. They agreed to implement an electronic information exchange system to prevent the forgery of phytosanitary certificates and to establish regular knowledge-sharing between experts from both countries.

The discussions also covered the potential for opening new export markets for vegetable crops such as watermelons.

The Iranian side expressed keen interest in Uzbekistan’s exporter registration system and signaled its readiness to exchange expertise in this area.
