Uzbekistan and China agree to develop multimodal transport corridors and railway routes

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 8 May 2025, during a visit to the People's Republic of China, Chairman of Uzbekistan Railways JSC Zufar Narzullaev met in Beijing with Guo Juesui, Chairman of China State Railway Group Co., Ltd.

The meeting focused on current issues and opportunities to expand rail freight transport, the construction of the China–Kyrgyzstan–Uzbekistan railway route, and the overall development of railway corridors and bilateral cooperation in this sector.

Particular attention was given to the steady increase in freight traffic between the two countries. The sides agreed on concrete steps to further enhance freight volumes and expand multimodal transport routes through corridors such as:

China–Kazakhstan–Uzbekistan–Turkmenistan–Iran–Turkey and Europe,

China–Kazakhstan–Uzbekistan–Afghanistan,

China–Kyrgyzstan–Uzbekistan–Turkmenistan–Iran–Europe,

China–Kyrgyzstan–Uzbekistan–Afghanistan–Pakistan–Indian Ocean ports.

A number of agreements were signed to ensure the efficient use of existing transport corridors and to promote the development of multimodal logistics.

Additionally, within the framework of the China–Kyrgyzstan–Uzbekistan railway construction project, the Uzbek side expressed readiness to actively participate in its implementation, including undertaking certain technical phases of the project.

At the conclusion of the meeting, both parties reaffirmed their commitment to continued cooperation aimed at strengthening bilateral ties and further advancing the railway sector.
