Uzbek Minister of Transport meets with European Commissioner for International Cooperation
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 18 March, Minister of Transport of Uzbekistan Ilkhom Makhkamov held talks with a delegation from the European Union led by Commissioner for International Cooperation, Josef Síkela.
During the meeting, the parties discussed key areas of cooperation between Uzbekistan and the EU in the fields of transport and logistics. Particular attention was given to the implementation of infrastructure projects under the Global Gateway initiative, specifically the construction of a new railway and highway between Uchkuduk and Kyzylorda. The discussions also covered the prospects for developing the Trans-Caspian Transport Corridor to enhance mutual trade volumes.
Ilkhom Makhkamov emphasized the importance of EU support in Uzbekistan’s accession to the multilateral permit system of the European Conference of Ministers of Transport (ECMT), which would expand the country’s international transport connections.
Additionally, he proposed exploring the possibility of establishing joint industrial and logistics parks in Uzbekistan, which would contribute to the development of trade and logistics infrastructure and attract investment.
