Uzatom and Italy’s Ansaldo Energia sign memorandum on nuclear energy cooperation

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The Atomic Energy Agency under the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan and Italy’s leading energy company Ansaldo Energia have signed a memorandum of understanding, according to Azim Akhmedkhadjaev, Director of Uzatom, who shared the news on his LinkedIn page.

He emphasized that the visit of Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni to Uzbekistan marked a new chapter in the development of bilateral relations between the two countries. During talks held in Samarkand, both sides discussed the expansion of strategic cooperation and signed a number of key agreements, among which the memorandum on peaceful uses of nuclear energy stood out as particularly significant.

The head of Uzatom noted that the memorandum with Ansaldo Energia aims to strengthen human resource capacity and foster industrial partnerships through the application of advanced technologies and the international expertise of the Italian company. Ansaldo Energia is one of the major players in the European energy market, specializing in the design and manufacture of equipment for power plants, including gas and steam turbines.

According to Azim Akhmedkhadjaev, through its subsidiary, the company is also active in the field of nuclear energy, placing special emphasis on innovative solutions for designing new nuclear power plants, the safe decommissioning of outdated facilities, and the effective management of radioactive waste.
