The Senate of Uzbekistan approves ratification of agreement with the UAE on legal assistance in civil and economic matters

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — At the seventh plenary session of the Senate of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the law “On the Ratification of the Agreement between the Republic of Uzbekistan and the United Arab Emirates on Legal Assistance in Civil and Economic Matters (Tashkent, on 27 September 2024)” was reviewed and approved.

It was noted that in recent years bilateral cooperation between Uzbekistan and the UAE has shown steady positive growth. To date, 31 agreements have been signed between the two countries across various fields, including extradition and criminal legal assistance, air transport, trade, elimination of double taxation, as well as science and technology.

The agreement subject to ratification was signed on 17 September 2024, in Tashkent during the visit of the UAE delegation to Uzbekistan. The document provides for the development of cooperation in providing legal assistance in civil and economic matters and guarantees citizens of both countries equal legal protection on each other’s territory, including the right to appeal to judicial and law enforcement authorities.

The agreement also establishes a mechanism for providing legal assistance in matters such as resolving civil disputes and the recognition and enforcement of judicial decisions.

Senators emphasized that the ratification of this agreement will contribute to the further development of the treaty and legal framework between Uzbekistan and the UAE, deepen cooperation in the judicial and legal sphere, and create sustainable mechanisms for legal interaction between the two states.

Following the discussion, the law was unanimously approved.
