Tashkent Metro to receive 56 new cars by year-end

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The Tashkent Metro plans to acquire 56 new train cars by the end of 2025, according to Rustam Shafikov, head of the Chilanzar Depot of the Tashkent Metro State Unitary Enterprise.

Currently, contract preparation and documentation for the procurement are underway.

As part of the metro's fleet renewal program, 12 new cars (three train sets) are expected to arrive in February, aiming to enhance passenger comfort and service reliability.

Over the past three to four years, Tashkent Metro’s daily ridership has surged from 250,000 to over 1 million passengers, Shafikov noted.

Since 2021, the metro operated 38 train sets. However, due to ongoing modernization efforts, 152 new cars (38 additional sets) have been purchased in recent years, bringing the total number of train sets in operation to 74.
