Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — By the end of 2025, all ticket offices at Tashkent Metro stations will be closed, and the position of ticket clerk will be completely eliminated, the metro’s press service announced.

According to the agency, the need for staff in this role has been gradually decreasing. A total of 204 ticket clerks have already been laid off, and automated ticket machines are planned to be installed at all stations by the end of the year. The positions of clerks and senior clerks will be fully abolished.

Laid-off employees will be offered professional retraining courses funded by the Metro. They will have the option to choose from various training programs, including accounting, sewing, confectionery, and other professions.

The main goal of this initiative is to support employees during the downsizing process and ensure stable income through acquiring new skills.

The process of closing ticket offices began on 4 July at 13 stations where nearly all passengers use cashless payment. At these stations, ticket offices were closed in one of the station vestibules.
