Shavkat Mirziyoyev: Modern technologies and quality control needed in the construction industry

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 19 May, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev reviewed a presentation dedicated to the current state and priority development directions of the construction materials sector.

With a growing population and accelerating urbanization, the demand for high-quality construction materials is increasing annually. In response to this challenge, the industry itself is actively developing: currently, there are about 10,000 specialized enterprises operating in Uzbekistan, with numerous projects underway.

In the first quarter of this year alone, the output of construction materials increased by 8%, and exports grew by 11%. Under the investment program, nine large-scale projects worth a total of US$500 million have been commissioned. Additionally, Uzbek trading houses have begun operations in Dushanbe, Kabul, and Philadelphia.

Nevertheless, many tasks still lie ahead. By the end of 2025, it is planned to implement 312 new projects totaling US$2.4 billion, create 16,000 high-paying jobs, increase the annual production volume to 53 trillion soms, and raise exports to US$1.2 billion.

During the presentation, responsible officials reported to the President on the measures being taken to achieve these goals. Shavkat Mirziyoyev emphasized that key issues for the industry remain improving product quality, reducing production costs, and fostering a modern construction culture. He instructed the implementation of advanced technologies, strengthening the competitive positions of domestic manufacturers, and maximizing the use of their products in construction projects carried out within the country.

Special attention was given to the role of science and innovation. In this regard, with the support of foreign experts, including a specialist from Germany, a scientific research R&D center has been established, focused on developing practical solutions.

One such solution was the introduction of rolled concrete coating technology for irrigation canals and ditches. According to calculations, this will reduce concreting costs by 10% and water losses by 3–5%.

The President also stressed the importance of promoting high value-added products both domestically and abroad. Particular emphasis in this process is placed on applying a scientific approach and analyzing geological resources. It is also necessary to study science-intensive and resource-consuming sectors of the industry to implement effective innovative solutions.

As an example, the results of an energy audit conducted at large enterprises last year were cited. According to its findings, there is potential to save up to 300 million kilowatt-hours of electricity. This confirms the feasibility of updating technological lines and optimizing production processes.

One of the new steps to ensure transparency and quality control will be the creation of an electronic registry of construction material manufacturers on the “Shaffof Qurilish” platform. Through this system, the quality of produced goods and compliance with technological standards will be monitored.
