Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 10 May, Shakhrisabz Regional Airport received its first flight operated by Silk Avia on the Tashkent–Shakhrisabz route, using an ATR 72-600 aircraft. In keeping with tradition, the plane was greeted with a ceremonial water salute, and the crew was welcomed with flowers.

Starting from 18 May, Silk Avia will operate regular flights on this route four times a week — on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays.

Previously, Shakhrisabz Airport serviced flights using Let L-410 aircraft, which accommodate a smaller number of passengers.

Following a reconstruction of the runway and taxiways, the airport is now capable of handling larger aircraft, creating favorable conditions for increased passenger traffic to one of the country's major tourism hubs.
