Senate Approves Amendments to Accelerate Uzbekistan’s Integration into the World Trade Organization
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — At a plenary session of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis, the Law “On Amendments and Additions to Certain Legislative Acts of the Republic of Uzbekistan in Connection with the Further Acceleration of Market Reforms and Uzbekistan’s Accession to the World Trade Organization” was reviewed and approved.
It was noted that harmonizing national legislation with WTO requirements and agreements is a key condition for the successful completion of the country’s accession negotiations.
The adopted law introduces amendments to the Law “On Licensing, Permitting, and Notification Procedures,” establishing licensing for activities related to the production (purchase), processing, and sale of ferrous and non-ferrous metal scrap and waste, as well as wholesale and retail trade in natural gas.
Additionally, amendments to the Law “On State Duties” define the fees for obtaining licenses for the specified activities.
Senators emphasized that these amendments will help attract private investment, promote innovation, develop a competitive environment, and create a more open and transparent market in the sectors of metal scrap handling and natural gas trade.
