Russian film festival to be held in Tashkent – Lineup features war dramas, family comedies, and biopics

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — From 29 to 31 May 2025, Tashkent will host the Russian Film Festival, organized by ROSKINO with the support of the Russian Ministry of Culture. Screenings will take place at the Alisher Navoi Cinema Palace as part of the Days of Russian Culture in Uzbekistan.

The festival program includes six contemporary Russian films spanning a variety of genres — from war and historical dramas to comedies and biographical films:

“Blood Type” (2025, dir. Maksim Brius) – a wartime drama about children's donor camps during World War II. This film will open the festival.

“Air” (2023, dir. Aleksey German Jr.) – a poignant story of young female pilots heading to the front lines.

“Fedya. The People's Footballer” (2024, dir. Nikolay Akelkin) – a sports drama portraying the life of Spartak legend Fyodor Cherenkov.

“The Return of Kesha the Parrot” (2024, dir. Oleg Asadulin) – a family comedy about a talking parrot and new beginnings.

“A Cultural Comedy” (2024, dir. Vladimir Kott) – a satirical tale about a bureaucrat’s cultural awakening.

“9 Seconds” (2024, dir. Oleg Shtrom) – a drama based on the heroic real-life story of sailor Aldar Tsydenzhapov, who saved his crew from disaster.

The Russian delegation at the festival will include actress Yekaterina Domashenko, screenwriters Marina Dovger and Danila Trotsenko, and Elsa Antonova, CEO of ROSKINO.

According to Antonova, this marks the first time ROSKINO is hosting a standalone film festival in Tashkent, expanding the scope of cultural cooperation between Russia and Uzbekistan beyond film screenings to include film production and education — notably through the recently established branch of VGIK (the Gerasimov Institute of Cinematography) in Tashkent.

The festival is part of a broader celebration of the Days of Russian Culture in Uzbekistan, set to take place in both Tashkent and Samarkand on 29–30 May. The program also features concerts by prominent Russian performers — including Pelageya, Sergey Volchkov, Alexandra Vorobyova, and Elmira Kalimullina — as well as the opening of a photo exhibition titled “Russia: Harmony of Nature, Architecture, and Humanity.”

The events are supported by the Ministries of Culture of both Russia and Uzbekistan, along with the Russian State Concert Company "Rosconcert."
