Rosatom presented key technologies for regional energy development at Power Uzbekistan-2025

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — From 13 to 15 May, the Uzbekistan Energy Week UEW 2025 and the Power Uzbekistan 2025 exhibition took place at the CAEx International Exhibition Center in Tashkent, where Rosatom showcased its technological solutions in the field of nuclear energy.

As part of the forum’s business program, representatives of Rosatom participated in strategic sessions focused on energy balance, peaceful uses of nuclear power, workforce development, and inclusion issues. The Rosatom exhibition featured models of small modular nuclear power plants (SMRs).

A key event at Rosatom’s booth was the presentation marking the start of pouring specially alloyed steel for the reactor vessel of one of the RITM-200N reactors, which will serve as the "heart" of the small modular nuclear power plant being constructed in Uzbekistan.

The plant project envisages six reactors, each with a capacity of 55 MW. Rosatom’s participation in the forum is aimed at developing sustainable partnerships and implementing joint energy projects.

“In the context of the global energy transition, we offer not only ready-made solutions for small modular nuclear power plants but also an approach to creating a sustainable energy system with a reliable baseload generation source and electricity prices predictable for decades ahead.

We proceed from a systemic understanding: a sustainable future requires a combination of local resources, international cooperation, and the training of a new generation of specialists. At the Power Uzbekistan platform, not just business ties but long-term solutions for a promising future with a sustainable energy system are being formed,” noted Alexey Dremuchev, Head of the Rosatom Central Asia Regional Center.

On 27 May 2024, during the state visit of Russian President Vladimir Putin to Uzbekistan, in the presence of the heads of state of Russia and Uzbekistan, a protocol was signed amending the intergovernmental cooperation agreement between the two countries on the construction of a nuclear power plant in Uzbekistan. The amendments expand cooperation to build a small modular nuclear power plant (SMR) in Uzbekistan based on a Russian design.

Additionally, on the sidelines of the event, JSC Atomstroyexport (the engineering division of the Rosatom State Corporation) and the State Enterprise "Directorate for Nuclear Power Plant Construction" under the Atomic Energy Agency under the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan signed a contract for the construction of a small modular nuclear power plant in Uzbekistan. The project involves building an SMR in the Jizzakh region with a total capacity of 330 MW: six reactors of 55 MW each.

Preliminary work on the SMR project began in the summer of 2024. In June, the first meeting of the Construction Headquarters was held at the future plant site, where priority tasks were identified to ensure the project proceeds on schedule.

In April 2025, construction of the construction and assembly base (CAB) began. This base will provide the necessary space for administrative and production buildings throughout the entire period of the SMR units’ construction. It is also planned to accommodate warehouses and large-scale assembly workshops at this site.

On May 13, Rosatom’s Mechanical Engineering Division began manufacturing reactor equipment for the SMR in Uzbekistan: a 205-ton ingot of specially alloyed steel was poured, from which the reactor vessel for the RITM-200N reactor will be fabricated.
