Romanian Ambassador delivers lecture at University of World Economy and Diplomacy
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Daniel Cristian Ciobanu, Ambassador of Romania to Uzbekistan, delivered a lecture at the University of World Economy and Diplomacy (UWED) on the topic "Cultural and Public Diplomacy as an Integral Element of Diplomatic Relations."
The event was dedicated to Brâncuși Day, celebrated annually in Romania on February 19 in honor of the birth of the renowned Romanian sculptor Constantin Brâncuși (1876–1957). Recognized as a pioneer of modernism, Brâncuși left a lasting mark on world culture with iconic works such as The Endless Column, The Table of Silence, The Gate of the Kiss, and Bird in Space.
During his lecture, Ambassador Ciobanu highlighted the active development of Uzbek-Romanian relations, particularly in cultural cooperation. He elaborated on Brâncuși’s artistic legacy and underscored the role of cultural diplomacy in strengthening international ties.
The diplomat also shared his personal public diplomacy initiatives, recalling his ascents of Uzbekistan’s mountain peaks in honor of the country’s Independence Day—Greater Chimgan (3,309 m) in 2021, Hazrat Sultan (4,083 m) in 2022, and the Pulathan Plateau (2,823 m) in 2023. In the same year, he also took a hot-air balloon flight along the Samsarak-Parkent route to commemorate 161 years of Romanian diplomacy.
Following the lecture, the university hosted the opening of a photo exhibition titled "The Art of Constantin Brâncuși." Ambassador Ciobanu expressed his gratitude to Rector Sodik Safoyev for supporting the initiative.
Event organizers emphasized that such initiatives contribute to enhancing cultural ties and fostering youth diplomacy.
