Renovation and investment projects in Tashkent discussed

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 14 May, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev was briefed on the presentation of renovation and investment projects planned for implementation in the city of Tashkent.

In accordance with the Cabinet of Ministers’ resolution of 24 December 2024, the general plan for the capital of Uzbekistan was approved through to 2045. Under this document, the city has been divided into three main zones: conservation, reconstruction, and renovation.

The renovation zone includes old, low-rise buildings and houses that do not meet modern urban planning and seismic safety standards. As part of this process, these structures are planned to be gradually replaced with modern residential and infrastructure complexes.

During the presentation, information was provided about the progress of these works. In particular, it was noted that the general plan includes over 300 sites for renovation. The first phase, covering the years 2025–2026, plans to implement 65 projects, which will improve the functionality of these areas, create comfortable living conditions for residents, and beautify the surrounding environment. Over time, the differences between the old and new neighborhoods will be reduced, ensuring their harmonious coexistence. Construction will be carried out with the preservation of existing trees and the creation of new green areas.

The President emphasized the importance of thorough checks of the architectural conformity of these projects with the overall city appearance and ensuring their safety based on geological and seismic studies. He highlighted that residential buildings should be closely linked to social infrastructure such as schools, kindergartens, and recreation zones.

Additionally, the head of state focused on the importance of green spaces, referring to them as the "lungs" of the city, and canals and ditches as its "circulatory system." In this regard, the new general plan places special emphasis on landscaping and drainage issues. Specifically, it is planned to increase the green spaces in Tashkent and its suburbs threefold, to 25,000 hectares, which will require improvement of the existing irrigation networks.

Information was also provided about the irrigation and drainage systems aligned with the new general plan. By 2030, it is planned to reconstruct 100 kilometers of canals and establish walking areas along them.

Together with the Turkish company "Su-Yapi Engineering and Consulting," studies have been conducted to identify issues in the drainage system. Based on aerial photography, geodetic data, and precipitation analysis, a master plan for its modernization has been developed. Last year, 45 areas prone to possible flooding were addressed, and similar work is planned for 34 more sites this year.

The President stressed the need to continue this work, expand its scope, and prepare qualified specialists in this field.

Information was also presented on the progress of investment projects in Tashkent. To date, 717 investment projects worth a total of US$25 billion have been launched in the capital. This year, it is planned to attract US$7.5 billion and implement 265 projects. As part of these projects, new residential complexes, shopping and entertainment centers will be built, new industrial enterprises will be organized, and thousands of jobs will be created.
