New “Progressive Bloc” formed in Uzbekistan’s Parliament, uniting two political parties
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — A new parliamentary alliance known as the Progressive Bloc has been established in the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan. The bloc is the result of an agreement between the factions of the Movement of Entrepreneurs and Businesspeople – the Liberal Democratic Party of Uzbekistan (UzLiDeP) and the Democratic Party “Milliy Tiklanish.”
The merger has enabled the bloc to form a parliamentary majority with 93 deputies, making it the leading political force in the lower house of parliament.
The main objective of the new alliance is to consolidate efforts for the effective implementation of both parties’ policy programs. The two political forces share similar ideological views rooted in the right-wing spectrum: UzLiDeP is center-right, while Milliy Tiklanish is right-wing.
In a joint statement, the parties highlighted the significant reforms achieved under the leadership of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev in recent years — particularly in entrepreneurship, education, healthcare, social protection, and governance transparency. The Progressive Bloc sees its mission as ensuring sustainable economic growth, protecting national interests, and implementing the “Uzbekistan – 2030” Strategy.
Key focus areas of the bloc include:
Reducing the state’s role in the economy and promoting market mechanisms
Protecting private property rights and encouraging citizens’ economic activity
Developing independent media and promoting freedom of speech
Enhancing education quality and supporting private educational institutions
Digitalizing healthcare and introducing medical insurance
Carrying out tax reform and ensuring policy stability
Reducing government expenditures and expanding public services via the private sector
Establishing a private pension savings system
Safeguarding national sovereignty and security
The statement emphasizes that the formation of the bloc is based not only on programmatic alignment but also on a proven track record of successful collaboration on political initiatives.
The creation of the Progressive Bloc is being described as a significant step toward building a stronger, fairer, and more modern Uzbekistan.
