Mirziyoyev Reviews Economic Development Plans for Khorezm Region

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev was briefed on the progress of reforms and socio-economic development plans for the Khorezm region.

Despite limited natural resources, the region has demonstrated stable economic growth due to structural transformations. Over the past eight years, approximately US$2 billion in investments have been attracted, more than 25,000 industrial enterprises opened, and production volumes increased 2.2 times. Today, Khorezm hosts successful enterprises in the textile, automotive, electrical, food, and construction sectors.

Reconstruction of the Tashsakinsky main canal has significantly improved the irrigation system, which is critical for the region, while the construction of a new bridge over the Amu Darya has reduced transport distances and improved mobility for residents.

In the past eight years, 660 apartment buildings have been built, providing new housing for 21,000 families. A total of 4,751 kilometers of water supply networks and 206 kilometers of sewage systems have been laid, with centralized water supply provided for the first time to 580,000 people. Since the beginning of the year, 100,000 low-income citizens have been employed, and the poverty rate has decreased from 12% in January to 6.8%, the best indicator in the country.

To further expand reforms, a dedicated headquarters has been established, presenting new projects developed based on entrepreneurs’ proposals. In Urgench district, a project to generate electricity from waste is planned with South Korean investment of US$100 million.

An Australian company intends to invest US$820 million in constructing a plant to produce 600,000 tons of eco-friendly aviation fuel and 50,000 tons of “green diesel” in Tuprakkalin district. To power the plant, solar panels with a capacity of 4 gigawatts will be installed on 5,500 hectares.

Additionally, a Slovak company plans to invest US$170 million in cultivating rapeseed on 5,000 hectares and building a biofuel production plant on the same site.

Overall, projects totaling US$2.4 billion have been prepared for Khorezm region, along with prospective initiatives and projects worth US$86 million funded from local reserves of cities and districts. The President instructed the creation of favorable conditions for investors and the acceleration of project implementation. It was noted that the region’s industrial zones are not fully utilized, requiring solutions in infrastructure and land use to launch over 100 new enterprises.

The head of state emphasized the importance of careful planning of industrial directions, mobilizing Khorezm’s internal potential, developing entrepreneurship, and reducing the shadow economy in the region.
