Mirziyoyev Honors Uzbek Filmmakers After Cannes Grand Prix Win

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — President of Shavkat Mirziyoyev on 19 May awarded two young Uzbek filmmakers with the “Kelajak Bunyodkori” medal following their success at the Cannes International Inclusive Film Festival in France.

The presidential decree honored screenwriter and film director Sukhrob Kodirov and Dilshodbek Usmonov, a student at the Tashkent branch of the Gerasimov Institute of Cinematography.

The Uzbek filmmakers received the Grand Prix for their short film “Step. Yusuf the Sunshine Child.” The decree noted their significant contribution to the development of national cinema through artistic talent, professional excellence, creativity, and productive creative activity, as well as their role in promoting Uzbek film culture internationally.

The head of state emphasized the laureates’ contribution to strengthening the artistic and spiritual potential of society, creating artistic images that reflect national values, and fostering a sense of patriotism among young people.

Sukhrob Kodirov works as an independent creative professional engaged in screenwriting and directing, while Dilshodbek Usmonov is a student and aspiring director at the Tashkent branch of the Gerasimov Institute of Cinematography named after Sergei Gerasimov.

The Cannes International Inclusive Film Festival is held in France and focuses on films addressing issues related to people with disabilities and their integration into society.

The award marks a significant achievement for Uzbek cinema and international recognition of the talent of young filmmakers from the country.
