Migration Service Employees in Namangan Detained for Bribery in Sending Citizens to South Korea
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Criminal proceedings have been initiated against employees of the Migration Service involved in illegally sending citizens to South Korea in exchange for money.
The State Security Service (SSS) conducted operational measures aimed at preventing illegal migration and protecting citizens from adverse conditions abroad.
It was revealed that the chief specialist of the Migration Agency branch under the Cabinet of Ministers in Namangan Region, abusing his official position, deceived a group of citizens and received US$41,000 for arranging work placements in South Korea. He was detained at the moment of receiving the money with evidence in hand.
Further investigation showed that this illegal activity was carried out in coordination with a chief specialist from the central apparatus of the Migration Agency. The second employee was also detained while receiving US$15,000.
Additionally, it was established that in 2024, these employees received over US$700,000 for sending more than 80 citizens to South Korea, with the funds not being used as intended.
A criminal case has been initiated by the SSS Investigation Department under Articles 168, 28, and 211 of the Criminal Code. Efforts are ongoing to identify all members of the criminal group and bring them to justice.
