Man Detained in Namangan with US$30,000 in Counterfeit Currency
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — A man attempting to circulate US$30,000 in counterfeit U.S. dollars was detained in Namangan.
During a joint operation by the Department under the General Prosecutor’s Office, the State Security Service, and Customs, an attempt to distribute fake currency was prevented.
A Lacetti car traveling on the Tashkent–Namangan route was stopped by law enforcement officers. One of the passengers was found in possession of 300 counterfeit US$100 bills intended for circulation in Namangan.
A criminal case has been opened under Article 176 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan (Manufacture and Distribution of Counterfeit Money, Excise Stamps, or Securities), and an investigation is underway.
