Leapmotor receives conditional approval to sell its vehicles in Uzbekistan

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The Scientific Testing Center for Quality Control of Uzbekistan (UzTEST) has clarified the situation regarding the certification of electric vehicles from the Chinese brand Leapmotor, specifically the C16 model, following repeated tests and the confirmation of compliance with international standards.

In March 2025, due to identified non-conformities in Leapmotor C16 electric vehicles, the acceptance of certification applications for these models in Uzbekistan was temporarily suspended. The issues pertained to the technical specifications of the vehicles, necessitating further examination and intervention by experts.

The state institution “Scientific Testing and Quality Control Center of Uzbekistan” sent an official inquiry to the Chinese company Zhejiang Leapmotor Technology Co. LTD. In response, on April 7, a company delegation led by Gu Jiawen visited UzTEST to discuss the matter. During the meeting, a strategy was developed to resolve the issues and conduct the necessary tests.

On April 14, 2025, repeated tests of two Leapmotor C16 vehicles were carried out at the Electromagnetic Compatibility Laboratory in the Pskent district of Uzbekistan. The procedure was conducted in the presence of company specialists, media representatives, and in accordance with UN Regulation No. 10, which governs electric vehicle standards.

Based on the results of the repeated tests, it was determined that Leapmotor C16 electric vehicles meet international standards and the requirements of UN Regulation No. 10. As a result, Leapmotor was granted conditional approval to distribute and sell its vehicles within Uzbekistan.

To continue vehicle distribution in the country, the company must fulfill a number of conditions. First, Leapmotor is required to appoint an official representative — a legal entity registered in Uzbekistan — responsible for addressing any identified non-conformities. This representative will also be liable for compensating any potential damage caused to consumers.

In addition, the company has committed to submitting all necessary documents for vehicle type approval and to carrying out a comprehensive assessment of its manufacturing processes and conditions at the facilities where Leapmotor vehicles are produced.

Thus, through close cooperation with Uzbek specialists and by meeting all stipulated requirements, Leapmotor has successfully passed the testing phase and secured the right to market its electric vehicles in Uzbekistan, continuing its expansion into international markets.
