Investigator Detained in Angren on Bribery Charges

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — In the Tashkent region, a senior investigator from the Investigation Department of the Angren City Department of Internal Affairs has been detained on suspicion of accepting a large bribe.

According to law enforcement authorities, during a preliminary investigation under his supervision, the investigator demanded US$10,000 from a citizen in exchange for not initiating criminal proceedings.

At the moment he received half of the agreed sum—US$5,000—the investigator was detained by officers of the State Security Service in cooperation with the Department under the General Prosecutor’s Office and the Main Department of Internal Security of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

A criminal case has been initiated against him under paragraph “b” of part 2 of Article 210 of the Criminal Code (“Acceptance of a Bribe”). The court has imposed pre-trial detention as a preventive measure.

Investigative actions are ongoing.
