Incident of Violence and Illegal Detention of a Woman with Infant Reported in Surkhandarya Region
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Social media reports have emerged regarding cases of pressure and violence against a woman and her newborn child in the Uzun district of Surkhandarya region. The regional Department of Internal Affairs confirmed that an investigation has been conducted.
According to the authorities, on 26 August, a report was received from one of the district’s mahallas that an unidentified woman was being held in unsanitary conditions and confined against her will in an outbuilding. A prevention inspector was dispatched to the scene and, despite resistance from the homeowners, forced open the door and found inside 27-year-old H.G. and her five-month-old son. The victims were in critical condition and were urgently taken to a medical facility.
The investigation established that the homeowner, Sh.A., born in 1981, together with his mother and close relatives, had subjected the woman to violence and detained her against her will for several months, exploiting her psycho-emotional characteristics, including speech impairments and difficulty expressing thoughts.
H.G. was hospitalized in the surgical department of the Uzun District Medical Association, while her child was placed in the maternity ward. Their condition remains under the supervision of medical professionals and the oversight of social protection authorities.
The investigative team of the Uzun District Internal Affairs Department has opened a criminal case under part 7 of Article 126¹, paragraphs “a” and “e” of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
Procedurally, Sh.A. and three of his close relatives have been detained as suspects in connection with the crime.
