Hundreds of Illegal Constructions Found on Green Zones and Playgrounds in Tashkent

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Authorities in Tashkent have uncovered hundreds of cases of illegal construction on green zones, children’s playgrounds, and sports grounds.

In June, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev ordered these areas to be restored to their original condition. Responsibility for monitoring and returning the lands has been assigned to the General Prosecutor’s Office, Ministry of Justice, Uzbekcosmos, and the Cadastre Agency.

According to Uzbekistan 24, large-scale work to reclaim the lands is already underway. Mansur Ruzimov, Prosecutor of the General Prosecutor’s Office, said that working groups are taking measures to restore the plots.

In Mirzo-Ulugbek district alone, 56 cases of illegal land use were identified. One plot of 27 sotok (0.27 ha) was returned to the state reserve by a district prosecutor’s decision, two criminal cases were initiated, and a preliminary investigation is ongoing.

In total, 374 such cases have been found across Yunusabad, Yakkasaray, and Mirzo-Ulugbek districts, with each case under review.

Uzbekcosmos is comparing 2018–2019 satellite images with current ones and sending identified violations to the prosecution authorities. Saidmurod Saidkhodjaev of the agency noted that the analysis revealed a significant number of violations of land legislation.

Working groups will continue similar inspections across all districts of the capital and other regions of the republic.
