Green Science and Innovation Day on Sustainable Agri-Food Systems Held in Tashkent
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 5 September 2025, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), together with Tashkent State Agrarian University, held a Green Science and Innovation Day in Tashkent.
The event brought together around 200 participants, including youth, scientists, representatives of government bodies, civil society, and businesses.
The initiative aimed to showcase innovative solutions and scientific developments that transform agri-food systems into more sustainable and environmentally friendly models. The Green Science and Innovation Day was part of a series of activities dedicated to the 2025 Year of Environmental Protection and Green Economy in Uzbekistan.
During the event, the following were presented:
“Agroplatform” — an information system developed by the Ministry of Agriculture’s Agro-Digitalization Center;
innovative methods of biological plant protection developed at Tashkent State Agrarian University;
advanced applications of space technologies and drones in agriculture by the Uzbekcosmos agency;
FAO’s experience in integrating science and innovation into the agricultural sector;
programs by FAO and the UN Volunteers Program to engage youth and volunteers.
Special attention was given to the conservation and rational use of land resources, which are key to ensuring food security and climate adaptation.
An interactive program, including a quiz on green science and FAO’s work, encouraged active participation from young attendees. Winners were recognized during the closing session.
Organizers emphasized that knowledge sharing, expanding partnerships, and using evidence-based solutions are essential for building a sustainable and inclusive agricultural sector capable of responding to global environmental challenges.
