Geneva to host the 10th meeting of the Working Party on Uzbekistan’s Accession to the WTO
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The 10th meeting of the Working Party on Uzbekistan’s accession to the World Trade Organization (WTO) will take place on 13 June 2025 in Geneva. The announcement was made by Azizbek Urunov, Special Representative of the President of Uzbekistan on WTO affairs, via his LinkedIn page.
According to Urunov, the upcoming session will focus primarily on bilateral negotiations, discussions of the proposed commitments outlined in the preliminary draft of the Working Party Report, and an informal meeting on agricultural issues — all aimed at accelerating Uzbekistan’s path to full WTO membership.
Special emphasis will be placed on clarifying the wide-ranging market reforms being implemented under the leadership of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev. These reforms are designed to further liberalize the economy, enhance transparency, and boost the competitiveness of the national market.
“We take this opportunity to sincerely thank WTO members for their continued support of our accession process,” Urunov emphasized.
To date, Uzbekistan has conducted bilateral negotiations with 33 countries, and market access issues have already been successfully agreed upon with 24 of them.
