FAO Trains Farmers in the Ferghana Valley on Safe Use of Agrochemicals with a Gender-Sensitive Approach
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) has conducted a series of training sessions in the Ferghana, Andijan, and Namangan regions to raise awareness among smallholder farmers on the safe handling of agrochemicals in greenhouse farming.
Special emphasis was placed on ensuring the active participation of women engaged in agricultural production.
The training was organized within the framework of international projects funded by the European Union and the Republic of Korea. The goal was to reduce risks to health and the environment while promoting gender-inclusive approaches in the agricultural sector.
Participants acquired practical skills in the proper use, storage, and disposal of agrochemicals, as well as knowledge about personal protective equipment and how to read product labels. The training discussions also addressed gender-specific barriers and identified ways to overcome them in the agricultural field.
At the conclusion of the training, all participants received certificates. This initiative marks another step in FAO’s ongoing efforts to promote safe and sustainable agricultural practices in the region.
