FAO delivers refrigerators and information materials to support veterinary services in Uzbekistan

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in Uzbekistan today handed over 70 refrigerators to the Committee for Veterinary and Livestock Development of the Republic of Uzbekistan as part of the "Pandemic Preparedness and Response through the One Health Approach in Central Asia" project.

The ceremonial handover took place at the headquarters of the Committee for Veterinary and Livestock Development in Tashkent. The refrigerators, will strengthen the technical capacity of veterinary laboratories across the country. This equipment will ensure proper storage conditions for biological samples, nutrient media, diagnostic tools, and other materials necessary for the diagnosis and monitoring of infectious diseases among animals.

"Our goal is to support the sustainable development of Uzbekistan's veterinary sector, provide laboratories with modern equipment, and improve veterinary control to protect animal and human health," said Mr. Umarov during the handover ceremony.

In addition to the refrigerators, FAO Uzbekistan also provided 3,000 copies of printed information materials on the rational use of antibiotics and reducing their application in dairy and poultry production, as well as guidelines for veterinarians and farmers on disease prevention and control in animals. These materials aim to reduce the risks of antimicrobial resistance and raise awareness among specialists and farmers.

"FAO has long been working closely with the Veterinary Committee, and we continue to strengthen veterinary infrastructure," added Mr. Umarov. "In the near future, we plan to purchase and transfer modern laboratory instruments such as digital microscopes, binocular LED microscopes, milk testers, pH meters, and more."

FAO will continue to provide support through this project and other initiatives to strengthen the material and technical base of veterinary services in Uzbekistan. The organization remains committed to improving infrastructure, providing necessary equipment, and offering expert support to enhance the effectiveness of veterinary services in the country.
