EIB interested in road construction and high-speed rail projects in Uzbekistan
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The Deputy Minister of Transport of Uzbekistan, Ilkhomjon Abdugafarov, met with Dilaro Alp, a representative of the European Investment Bank (EIB) responsible for lending matters.
During the meeting, the two sides exchanged views on ongoing reforms in Uzbekistan and prospective projects aimed at developing the country’s transport infrastructure.
Particular attention was given to the construction of toll roads between Tashkent and Samarkand, as well as Tashkent and Andijan. Additionally, the construction of a dedicated high-speed passenger rail line connecting Tashkent and Samarkand was also discussed.
Dilaro Alp emphasized that the European Investment Bank is actively supporting the financing of such projects, primarily by opening credit lines for local banks. She also highlighted that the EIB leadership is highly interested in these projects, which are included in a Memorandum of Understanding signed between the bank and the Republic of Uzbekistan in 2024.
Following the meeting, it was decided to share information on the available terms and timelines for EIB credit lines with companies working in the transport and logistics sectors, with the aim of expanding their operations.
